Michael McKenna counts his time as a vampire in months, not centuries, but two of the most powerful vampires in the New World, are dead at his hands. That victory came with a cost. Friendships are frayed. Relationships are broken. Friends are dead. And Caitlin ... Now Dermot and Siobhan, the only creatures cruel enough to earn Liam's gift of immortality, are seeking revenge for the death of their Sire. Michael must battle back against this new threat, show the ropes to two fledgling vampires, and shoulder the responsibilities of being the most powerful vampire in St. Troy. Thomas Galvin's hit series continues with Scion, the second book in the Vampires of St. Troy saga.

Scion The Vampires of St Troy Thomas Galvin 9781492807780 Books

I was sure that Sire was very difficult to top, but Scion just did it without breaking a sweat. New premise for our heroine, new baddies, new action, while all the little fun stuff I loved so much in Sire is still there. Especially the extremely rare genre awareness that our heroes have. I just loved Caitlin's reaction to becoming a vampire, it totally matches the one I would have had.
Absolutely recommended, especially with that twist at the end.

Scion The Vampires of St Troy Thomas Galvin 9781492807780 Books Reviews

After finishing Sire I really looked forward to Scion due to that cliffhanger. Though I have to partially agree with another reviewer when it comes to repetitive fight scenes etc. I still liked Thomas way of looking at the supernatural world. Scion is enjoyable if slightly less addictive to read than Sire. Looking forward to the next book though.
Thomas has topped Sire with Scion! I have just finished reading and let me say I can't wait for more books. The Vampires of St. Troy bring you into their world and you just don't want to leave.
I enjoyed Scion more than its predecessor which is shocking since I usually like the original story. Lots of fighting, lots of no mercy deaths, and still time for some loving. The cliff hanger at the end was great, I'm definitely left wondering what in the hell is going to happen next. And I was so glad to see our heroes finally accepting human blood. Nothing lamer than a vampire stuck on drinking animal blood. Humans FTW. Good work Mr. Galvin, you gave me some great entertainment
This book was so much better than its prequel! Absolutely loved the new bad guys, Dermot and Siobhan! And yes, their accents. They reminded me so much of The Originals on TVD. So badass. The story was more action-packed. The characters became more interesting; Caitlin became a vampire (her reaction was priceless, BTW), Alexis a vampire hunter, Evan an eager wizard, but my favorite transformation was Bethany's! Garret remained boring and became stupid towards the (or his) end. Haha. And (SPOILER) why was Angelica back!?!! Was she supposed to be a zombie or something? Anyway, I'll be eagerly waiting for the next installment!
I read this book immediately after finishing the author's first book, Sire, and I have to say that I was a little disappointed. I didn't find that this story was an improvement on the beginning of the series. There were several scenes that felt repetitive to me over the course of the story. It's hard to make a fight scene interesting when it contains the same characters doing the same things over and over. Also I didn't feel that the characters were very relatable or particularly interesting. The version I read also contained multiple spelling errors and word choice errors.
The story itself was a quick and fun read if you are in fact looking for an easy, enjoyable read. I am glad to have been able to read it, but even with the cliffhanger I'm not entirely drawn in and anxious for the next installment.
So here we are, with the sequel of Sire, and once again, I couldn't put the book down and read it in two evenings. This sequel doesn't focus as much on Michael and Caitlin, and gives more room for the other "secondary" characters, who become almost as important as the supposedly "primary" characters. If in the first book I had trouble to connect to the characters (especially Caitlin), I really started enjoying them in the sequel. I only think that Bethany's personality has changed so much that I was a little thrown off, especially since Caitlin's hasn't changed as much. However the parallel between both was a nice way to build up the story line.

Just like in Sire, Scion is action-packed and you dive into Thomas' vampire world, where there is no room for sentimentalism, even though it still has some romantic moments. Vampires are really vampires and humans are still entertaining, they are not boring. You are able to understand both worlds and you find yourself rooting for "bad" characters. Good job, I can't wait for the next book, as Thomas ends the book with a smart, unexpected cliffhanger. I think that what I enjoy the most is that both books seem to be simple and easy, you don't feel like things are forced. I absolutely recommend it.
Thomas Galvin does it again! He continues to steer clear of what has become the standard themes of a young adult vampire story. 'Scion' kicks off with a hot introduction to new characters. Soon you are whisked back to St. Troy! You get a quick rehash of the things that went down in 'Sire' and then you're right back into the new story. The bonds of love, friendship, and family, however twisted some of them are, still ring true in this novel. One of the things I enjoyed most about this novel where the action sequences. The descriptions of them never felt forced or ridiculous to imagine them happening, well if vampires and werewolves actually existed. There were a few laughable moments, a few heart-warming moments, and some sexy, without being smutty moments. The ending was so unexpected and has me looking forward to another peek into the madness that is St. Troy.
I was sure that Sire was very difficult to top, but Scion just did it without breaking a sweat. New premise for our heroine, new baddies, new action, while all the little fun stuff I loved so much in Sire is still there. Especially the extremely rare genre awareness that our heroes have.
